don't think, just shoot

i will be forever grateful to jo for introducing me to this incredibly chill, film-based, lo-tech hobby that combines technique, creativity, and a healthy dose of luck (backed by a thick wallet!). i honestly do think (yes jing, im SERIOUS) that in the age of instant perfection brought about by the overpopulation of the world with DSLRs, lomography is a breath of fresh air.

it's taught me a little about letting go, and just trusting physics and the world to deliver what it's supposed to for you. oh you can control the little knobs and film quality and apertures and shutter speeds, but at the end of the day, who the heck has a perfect lomo shot? (of course it's still something we try to aim for, paradoxically; the perfect lomo shot with just the right amount of leaks and vignetting and blurriness =_=)

i am extremely annoyed, however, by lomography international's monopoly over the field. they charge exorbitant prices for what they describe as "cheap, plastic toy cameras". i mean, come on! and we fall for it, each and every time, (honestly the spinner 360 is STUPID but omg so cool) because we have fallen hard for lomography, and once you're in you can't stop.

also, i'm extremely annoyed by 'uptown camera uncle' who develops my film and smirks every time i come in because undoubtedly i'll get multiple bad shots.

i really want to get this "4 Lens Action Camera" that's made in china (you know, i don't even think this thing has a name!), sold at fourskin in ou. but that's the thing about branding: you feel insecure and you feel that if it's not branded, it can't work. but i think it does. i hope.

part of lomo's creed is to "don't think, just shoot" so in the same vein, "don't think, just buy". =)
