The title of this post is also at this moment, the facebook status which i've put up. The phrase means "May all beings be well and happy."
So last night i was invited by my bedside tutor, Dr W, to his Buddhist centre, Metta Lodge. There was food, and singing, and a talk given by him on how to be a compassionate doctor.
And as he was talking, and teaching us about metta, karuna, mudita and upekkha, and the Noble Truths, and of attachment and mindfulness - it occurred to me that we were all seated cross-legged in front of a large, white porcelain figure of the Buddha.
This was probably what He would have wanted. =)
So then the talk went on, and reaffirmed what i've always believed in. What i hope to accomplish in the future as a doctor. How i've acted in the past few days, facing a death and a patient with a bad cancer prognosis.
And i know that despite my screwed up personal life, my professional life might be going somewhere worthwhile.
I've not had much cause to write in here these days (and also no time!) but last night, i felt at peace. Thanks, Dr W.
(by the way, i presented Mr R with lymphoma to you)
Yea, he's the Dr Cox to my JD.
