of medical students and conferences, day 3

1. M, R and i go crazy hauling tables and chairs. Loopiness is in the air: M goes on about Korean/Thai girls; R laughs his big, booming laugh; and i ride the trolley with the chairs while the other two push and grumble.

2. Taking time out from the conference, i have a simple conversation with a HK delegate at the HK AMSA booth.

3. Ever the delivery boy, i bring lunch to the registration table, to make sure the three people working there have something to eat. Even as i do that, i hear other committee members checking in on one another, making sure that everybody's had their share of food.

4. Condoms galore! HM gives her box of condoms to CYC, who's going to pass them on to someone who needs them.

5. I leave the crude chocolate commercialism behind and head for the quieter, more soulful Karyaneka souvenir shop, where i catch up with PT. I hear the friendly shop assistant from Melaka singing along to a love ballad playing on the radio. Then i take the time to browse around - the many facets of Malaysia all under one roof.

6. We are ushered into Saloma Bistro by kompang players all gilted up, and jasmine floral wreaths. The sweet scent of the jasmine and the powerful roar of the kompangs accompany me as i waltz in and around the crowd, saying my hellos and snapping photos.

7. The bhangra posse comes onstage and brings down the roof! Lodged in amongst sweaty, swaying bodies i find myself in a perfect moment.

Whoa. What a long day.
